Spending alot of money on programs is a real drag, but creating a website usually requires a HTML editor/creation program. Dreamweaver does cost a bundle, so we compiled a list of free html programs that can help you do your job without breaking the bank.
Easy HTML - EasyHtml is 100% free HTML editor. Unlike other freeware editors, EasyHTML has special feature which you can’t even get in some cost editors. HTML tags are color coded so its very easy to see what you doing. One-click Bold, Italic, etc…and floating toolbars. Even comes with a HTML wizard to make homepages quickly.
Stones WebWriter- Stone’s WebWriter is an award winning Danish no-nonsense HTML editor. Easy-to-use dialogues, right-click editing, code completion and syntax high-ligthing, so you can get started without knowing HTML. The program is powerful yet small enough to fit on one floppy disc. (Do people still use the floppy?)
Arachnophilia- This is the first HTML creation software I have ever used so I have fond memories with this piece of software. Its is extremely powerful with the ability to use the built-in FTP feature. Basically how FTP works is when you create your website, you can upload it to your hosting server. You can import formatted text, outline, and tables and convert them into HTML.
Seamonkey - The SeaMonkey project is a community effort to develop the SeaMonkey all-in-one internet application suite (see below). Such a software suite was previously made popular by Netscape and Mozilla, and the SeaMonkey project continues to develop and deliver high-quality updates to this concept. Containing an Internet browser, email & newsgroup client, HTML editor, IRC chat and web development tools, SeaMonkey is sure to appeal to advanced users, web developers and corporate users.
Nvu (N-View)- This is a Authoring program that works with Linux, Windows, and Mac. This program is a great alternative to Frontpage and Dreamweaver. This is a powerful piece of software for people that need a full solution including FTP and formatting. Here are some of the features list:

Windows-Like Page Creation – This clever piece of software probably needs a name to complete the package, but its a simple program (129k) that can create a unique style html page.
Notepad++ is a free (free as in “free speech”, but also as in “free beer”) source code editor and Notepad replacement, which supports several programming languages, running under the MS Windows environment.
I use Notepad ++ to edit XML documents, this has been a life saver and will never go back to the standard Windows notepad.
